Select a brand that is not over the top expensive. Ask your vet what they like. Stay away from supermarket brands or brands with a ton of grains and fillers. Stay away from serving them primarily canned food (expensive and a lot of fat!).
Initially they will need 3 or 4 meals daily. Generally though at age 5 months you can reduce to 2 or 3 meals. At 1 year reduce to 2 meals daily. Don’t go by what the back of the dog food bag says, they are selling food and that will get you a fat dog! Always PLENTY of fresh cool water.
Good food and cool water is the best!

Some Ideas –
Make them Do something for their supper, whether it be “give me a paw”, “sit” or “sit stay”. Remember NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!
You might want to moisten food with hot water, leave to set and cool for 10 minutes then offer. Don’t be upset if their appetite isn’t off the chars for the first 2-3 days. They will settle in, you might add some boiled white pasta to assist in appetite. Pick up an uneaten food after 20 minutes. Refrigerate what is left and you can warm it up or nuke it if they will eat it later.
Did you know that dogs can become Hypoglycemic as well as we can! They sometimes will eat grass to make themselves sick. Offer them a cookie (bland – milk bone type) or plain cracker, it can help jump start their tummy and remind them that they are hungry. Sometimes they can get so low on sugar that they get physically sick and vomit. Often is is yellowy-orange bile. Try and offer him a starchy cracker, bread or toast w/ a bit of peanut butter or toast etc…
